1. Utilize the entirety of wall space you have

A typical counter is 36” high, and a typical backsplash is 18” high. That means you have from 54” off the floor to the ceiling for cabinets. Depending on your ceiling height, you might be able to do custom height cabinets up to 48” or even add an entire second row of cabinets. Always have an upper cabinet above the fridge.

2. Maximize corners

A lot of small kitchens might be L-shaped with corners. Corners can be maximized with cabinets that accommodate pull-out Lazy Susan’s to make sure you use that space. Don't forget about the upper corners of your kitchen. Install open shelving or cabinets with glass doors to showcase decorative items or frequently used kitchenware. By extending storage vertically, you make the most of the available space and add a touch of style to your kitchen.

3. Order additional shelves for pantries for customization

Not all food or kitchen gear requires the same height shelves. Consider adjustable or modular shelving units that can be easily configured to accommodate items of different sizes. This customization allows you to create specialized zones for pantry staples, canned goods, spices, and even small kitchen appliances. Additionally, extra shelves enable you to take full advantage of the vertical space within your pantry, making room for items that might otherwise be relegated to the back and forgotten.

4. Invest in custom-size cabinetry

Usually, cabinets come in increments of 3” from 12”-36”. The rest of the kitchen would be modified with filler panels. If you can invest in custom-sized cabinets and reduce the number of fillers, you can maximize storage. While hoods are an extremely popular option for over a stove or range, using an over-the-range microwave frees up cabinet space from where you might otherwise build it in.

5. Mounting paper towel holder

Consider mounting a paper towel holder under the upper cabinets to reduce clutter on the countertops. An undermount soap dispenser also clears the countertop. This simple yet effective solution not only frees up valuable counter space but also adds a touch of organization to your kitchen. Mounting a paper towel holder under the upper cabinets ensures that essentials are within arm's reach, promoting a clean and streamlined countertop environment that enhances both functionality and aesthetics.

Conclusion

Small kitchens may present a challenge, but with the right strategies, you can transform them into efficient, stylish, and enjoyable spaces. Remember, it's not about the size; it's about the creativity and functionality you bring to the table. Happy cooking!
