Williamsburg Apartment Renovation

The kitchen is often considered the heart of the home, making it important for the kitchen to be functional, aesthetically pleasing, and up to date. Collaborating closely with the client, The Chapter team relocated the kitchen to be adjacent to the living room area, creating an open kitchen concept that seamlessly integrates both spaces, resulting in a cozy and modern atmosphere. This required significant work, including installing new plumbing rough-ins from existing risers, upgrading the electrical panel, and wiring. The blue color of the kitchen cabinets serves as a bold yet tasteful design element, which is complemented by classic and timeless marble countertops, elegant brass fixtures, and smart appliances that enhance functionality.

The bathroom was renovated with attention to detail. The goal was to create a sanctuary where the client could unwind after a tiring day, with a design that involved elegance and refinement. To achieve this vision, we incorporated a range of elements, such as a free-standing bathtub, a shower, a double sink vanity, marble tiles, and brass fixtures.

The free-standing bathtub proved to be a great addition to the bathroom, serving as the focal point of the space. It was paired with a walk-in shower including a luxurious rain showerhead, and the warm golden tone of the brass fixtures created a stunning contrast against the cool marble tiles. These carefully selected design elements truly set this bathroom apart.

The Chapter team encountered numerous obstacles during the construction phase. After demolishing the old bathroom, they discovered extensive water damage and rotted joists that needed to be replaced. To address this issue, the team enlisted the expertise of a structural engineer and implemented hydraulic jacks to temporarily support the apartment structure while new joists were installed. The team took advantage of this situation to lower the bathroom floor area, resulting in a seamless finish that eliminated the need for transition saddles between the bathroom and living room area.

Enhancing the natural light and providing easy access to the backyard were among the client’s top priorities for the renovation, as they recognized the privilege of having outdoor space in Williamsburg. To achieve these goals, the Chapter team proposed a new storefront system with ample glass elements, which proved to be the ideal solution. The team replaced the demolished structural wall with a sturdy steel beam supported by two steel columns and a new opening was created to accommodate the storefront system. This innovative addition transformed the design of the apartment, elevating it to a new level of sophistication. The amount of natural light now flooding the space creates a warm and inviting atmosphere, while the easy access to the backyard allows the client to fully enjoy the apartment.
