Historic Apartment Gut Renovation

285 Riverside, NYC, NY

Before & After

Renovating an old apartment from the 1800s raises a common question: "Is it worth the effort compared to a new, move-in-ready space?" The answer is yes. These historic apartments offer a charm that modern buildings lack, and renovations allow you to customize your home to reflect your style.

Take our recent project: a 3-bedroom, 3-bathroom apartment needing a complete overhaul. We updated the electrical and plumbing throughout, including installing new stacks and lines for a washer and dryer in the kitchen.

For the living room, we transformed the flooring with a stylish mix of herringbone and light plank hardwood, creating a warm atmosphere. New wall sconces, wallpaper, and radiator covers added to the charm, alongside updated lighting and painted crown moldings for a polished look.

In the foyer, we installed elegant light fixtures and framed the light and bright-colored herringbone floor with a design that mirrors the living room and dining room, tying the spaces together beautifully.

The kitchen was completely redesigned, featuring a full gut renovation, the addition of a washer and dryer, and the construction of a stylish butler's pantry. The blue kitchen and blue-patterned floors were chosen to match each other and look very stylish.

We completely gut renovated both bathrooms, converting the shower and adding vibrant blue tiling that complements the apartment's recurring blue themes. This project not only preserved the apartment’s historic character but also modernized it for comfortable, contemporary living in the years to come.
