Pre-War Co-Op Combined Apartment Renovation

465 W 23rd St, NYC, NY:

Two apartments, one coherent design

When Chapter came onto this project, it was just two units joined without any thought for the functionality and design of the space. Located in the London Terrace complex in Chelsea, overlooking the popular High Line.

Our team executed a full gut renovation of the joined apartments. Relocating the kitchen provided an excellent opportunity to introduce a captivating design. Ocean blue cabinets were paired with Mammoth Cave countertops, which are an unexpected modern combination. By removing walls, we achieved an open kitchen concept with a central island. Glazed Herringbone Mosaic was chosen for the backsplash, and we went with a beautiful black LED linear chandelier over the island.

In keeping the apartment aesthetically consistent, our design approach involved implementing elements from the kitchen and living room for the bathroom design. For the primary bath, we have custom millwork, including the vanity and medicine cabinet, which harmonized with the gray oak floors. For the guest bath, the client elected to maintain the ocean blue millwork from the kitchen, so we designed custom millwork to maintain consistency.

Additionally, we reconfigured a wall in the living room to create a second bedroom, providing improved access to the guest bath. In the spacious primary bedroom, we integrated a custom-made desk with shelving, catering to the client’s request for a comfortable writing space.

With meticulous attention to detail and a cohesive design vision, we successfully revitalized the space, elevating both functionality and aesthetics to create a remarkable home.
